Tourism Malaysia took inspiration from the Burger King ad that ran in the UK earlier this month and decided to encourage people to support Singapore's local tourism industry.
“Just like Burger King never thought they’d be promoting a Big Mac, we too, never thought we’d be asking you to do this"
Tourism Malaysia shared a post on its Facebook page yesterday (11/11/2020) urging people to take a Singapoliday. The post read: “Just like Burger King never thought they’d be promoting a Big Mac, we too, never thought we’d be asking you to do this”.
The suprise post that encourage people to spend their holidays in Singapore received many positive comments from netizens, many of whom commented that they can’t wait to holiday in the country again in the future.
The Singapore Tourism Board was quick to respond to the message with a comment on the Facebook post. The Visit Singapore page commented: “Thanks for the love, Tourism Malaysia. Thinking of you too – stay safe and keep well. (Written on the sandy shores of Sentosa while remembering the awesome times at Pulau Redang.)”
Tourism Malaysia’s post has since been updated to just emojis: the Malaysian flag, a heart and a Singapore flag.
And of course, the Burger King ad that Tourism Malaysia was referencing was posted on the Burger King UK Twitter account on Nov 2 where they urged customers to “Order from McDonald’s” or any of the “sister food chains (fast or not so fast)” to support the restaurants that employ thousands of staff which until today received 41.8K Retweets and 21.1K Quote Tweets.
